The Pelee Island Bird Observatory (PIBO) is seeking one long-term field assistant for our 2012 spring and autumn migration monitoring program on Pelee Island, Ontario, Canada. The position is available from April 1st – June 15th and from August 1 – November 15th. Ideal candidates will be available for both seasons. Responsibilities: Participants will be involved in constant-effort visual monitoring and bird banding/mist-netting, seven days-a-week, up to six hours each morning, along with some data entry and station upkeep in the afternoons. Terms: A stipend of $20/day plus food and accommodations, including free room and board in late-June and July. Although a rigorous schedule, the position is ideal for anyone interested in gaining first-hand knowledge of eastern North American birds. More than 200 species are recorded each year at PIBO’s field station at Fish Point Provincial Nature Reserve (100 ha), and up to 5500 birds are captured of ninety species.

Qualifications:
Qualifications: some mist-netting and bird banding experience. The field assistant will be one of two primary banders and extractors. Ideally, participants will have extracted at least 500 songbirds. Knowledge of eastern N.A. birds both in-the-hand and field would be helpful, but not essential.
