Job Description:
I am recruiting motivated PhD students to join my research group at the Department of Biology, University of Western Ontario, CANADA to study ecology and evolution using Song Sparrows as a model species. The range of potential research projects is diverse from population ecology and conservation, to behaviour, to physiology and genetics. Projects could be conducted in the field at our long-term study sites near Victoria British Columbia and/or in London Ontario at the Advanced Facility for Avian Research (http://birds.uwo.ca), Canada’s first dedicated facility for avian research, which is home to the largest group of integrative avian biologists in the country and houses the largest array of cutting-edge tools for studying birds. Potential topics include (but are not exclusive to) predator-prey interactions including the indirect effects of predators on prey; predator-induced ‘stress’ and avian reproductive success; dispersal and survival of fledglings and adults using radio-telemetry; interactions between hosts and brood parasitic cowbirds; effects of early development on lifetime reproductive success; maternal effects; behavioural ecology and/or development of song; winter ecology; ecological factors affecting sex ratios and/or population genetic structure; carry-over effects.
