Job Description:
The bander(s) will assist with avian research projects conducted by the Alaska Bird Observatory (ABO), primarily the operation of the Creamer’s Field Migration Station (CFMS). This position is under the direction of the Migration Program Manager.

Qualifications:
High competency at mist netting, ageing, sexing, molt scoring, and banding passerines (at least 2000 songbirds in the past three years) and handling other birds, excellent bird ID skills, meticulous approach to collecting and recording data, excellent oral and written communication skills, Our station can process up to 330 birds/day, so the bander(s) be able to handle high-stress situations with a calm and level-head. Applicants must be in excellent physical shape, capable of making common sense decisions concerning wildlife interactions (e.g., moose), have a high tolerance for dense mosquito activity, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. It is vital that the bander(s) be able to interact well with staff, volunteers (60/year) and the public In addition, this position requires many early mornings (banding starts at 530 every day!) and sometimes long days. Approximately 40 hours/week, plus some overtime. Will be required to work weekend days. $2,200/month, plus overtime (~$13/hour). An $850 travel stipend will be provided.
