Job Description:
We are seeking enthusiastic avian field technicians to assist with nest searching/monitoring, avian surveys, and vegetation surveys on privately owned grasslands in northwestern Illinois. We will be investigating how different types of management practices within the federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP; http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/crp/, http://www.fsa.usda.gov/Internet/FSA_File/crp07.pdf) affect avian communities and their productivity. Housing will be provided for the crew. Technicians should be able to work independently and as a part of a small team, and should have an eager interest in field work and birds. Applicants with grassland bird nest searching experience, grassland bird visual and aural identification skills, and identifying Illinois grasses and forbs are particularly encouraged to apply. The field season will start in early May and end in early August.
