Job Description:
FIELD TECHNICIANS are needed to conduct tidal marsh bird research at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (Oceanville, NJ). This project, which is supervised by a graduate student from the University of Delaware, will examine the breeding ecology of endemic tidal marsh birds, with particular focus on Saltmarsh Sparrows.
PRIMARY DUTIES include mist-netting, nest searching and nest monitoring. Occasional duties include collecting vegetation data, small mammal surveys, and assisting with data entry. Technicians should expect to work long days (beginning early in the morning) in challenging field conditions (high heat/humidity, no shade, and no shortage of biting insects!).
SALARY for these full-time positions is $9/hour and housing is provided.
THIS WORK is in support of a large-scale project called SHARP: Saltmarsh Habitat and Avian Research Program, which investigates the status and distribution of tidal marsh birds along the North Atlantic coast. Particular emphasis is placed on Saltmarsh Sparrow, Seaside Sparrow, Nelson’s Sparrow, Willet and Clapper Rail. See www.tidalmarshbirds.org for more information on SHARP.
