Job Description:
WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST, Requisition Number: 11-0139. Post Date: 7/19/2011. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Design and implementation of field studies for California flora and fauna 2. Data analysis, literature review and synthesis 3. Assist Project Managers and Senior Biologists with natural resource projects, primarily associated with energy and water markets 4. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units and other and other tools 5 Prepare technical reports 6. Potential for extended travel and field work.

Qualifications:
Requirements: Basic Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s Degree in wildlife management, biology, ecology environmental science, natural resource management or related field 2. Minimum 2-5 years of experience in related field work 3. Understanding of the ecology of California flora and fauna 4. Experience with survey protocols and general methodologies for assessment of wildlife populations including amphibians, reptiles, migratory birds, raptors, and mammals 5. Ability to identify California birds by sight and sound 6. Working understanding of regulatory laws and processes pertaining to natural resources (e.g., ESA, CESA, California Fish and Game Code, CEQA/NEPA) 7. Basic understanding of budgeting & project management principles 8. Experience in scheduling and directing field teams 9. Possess capabilities in data compilation and analysis 10. Must be able to walk long distances under adverse conditions 11. Must be able to carry equipment/or supplies weighing up to 40 lbs 12.Willingness to travel and support extended field deployments, including to locations throughout the U.S. 13. Excellent oral and written communication skills 14. Excellent interpersonal skill 15. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word & Excel 16. Must authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship. Desired Qualifications: 1. Possession of valid State and Federal Permits for study, monitoring, and/or handling of any of the following special-status wildlife species: California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, giant garter snake, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, desert tortoise, Least bells vireo, Southwestern willow flycatcher, northern spotted owl, salt-marsh harvest mouse, San Joaquin kit fox, and bats. 2. Two (2) plus years of consulting experience 3. Positive, flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team 4. Ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects 5. Willingness to take on a variety of assignments 6. Detail oriented; resourceful 7. Local candidates preferred 8. Self motivated; strong initiative.
