Prizes:   The winning team will receive 3 pairs of Audubon 8x42 Equinox binoculars generously donated by Eagle Optics + bragging rights for the 2006-2007 season. Prizes are also currently being sought for the runner up teams.

Participants: Participation is limited to current students who are members in good standing of at least one of the participating NAOC societies. We can accommodate 9 teams each with 3 members. Participation will be based on a first-come first-served basis, so get your teams together early! Teams consisting of students with different areas of expertise will do best because of the varied subject matter of the questions. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other students, participate in the conference, and show off your knowledge. You do not need to present a talk or poster to sign up, but you do need to be registered for the conference.

Description: This will be a Jeopardy!-style quiz bowl. If you’re unsure how Jeopardy! is played, see http://zone.msn.com/en/jeopardy/default.htm. In this quiz bowl, teams of three will compete to answer general knowledge questions on topics that may include: avian structure and function, morphology, behavior, taxonomy, genetics, identification of birds by sight or sound, birds in the news, famous ornithologists, and birds in popular culture. Each of the 9 teams will participate in a timed match against 2 other teams where up to 25 general ornithological knowledge questions will be asked. The point values of the questions will vary, with more difficult questions being worth a higher point value. At the end of the timed match, one final question will be asked where teams can wager up to all of their point value. The winning teams from each first-round match will then play in the championship round that will be played in the same manner as the first round. Each member of the winning team in the championship round will receive a pair of binoculars generously donated by Eagle Optics binoculars. Prizes are also being sought for the runner up teams in the championship round.

Note: given logistical constraints, play is limited to the first 9 teams that sign up.

Language: The quiz bowl will be in English, although the questions will pertain to ornithological topics from across the globe.
